5 Unique Ways to Use Fun Borders

Borders are an essential part of the Kiwi Lane style. They frame your scrapbook pages, and each one adds movement and interest to every layout, making even the simplest page look beautiful and professional. Fun Borders achieve the same results while also providing you with more variety and potential and fun for every memory you scrapbook!

You might be wondering how to use Fun Borders. Don’t worry! You Play-to-Create with them just like you would any other Designer Template. But of course, you might need some inspiration to get you started. Here are 5 unique ways to use your Fun Borders!
1. Mat Your Photos
Using a Fun Border to mat your photos might not be how you first reach for your Designer Templates, but you’ll fall in love with all the possibilities that suddenly open up with these options.

There are 2 Fun Border sets that you’ll adore matting your photos with: Streamers and Banners. These large, chunky templates may make you think “Party” just from the names, but their size is perfect for photo mats.

Banners are a good solid choice.
Banners are all straight designs with decorative ends that draw your eye across your pages, keeping the focus of your scrapbook on your photo memories.

Streamers make your photos the star of the show!
Streamers #3 is a plaque design that provides a natural space for your photos. Use it as a frame to bring your photos to the forefront, whether you have it supporting larger photos or using it as the background for a grid of tiny snapshots.

Streamers #2 has a gentle curve that provides the perfect motion for a series of photos. And you’ll never have to worry about cropping out anything important. Since you can see through Designer Templates, all you have to do is set Streamers on top of your photo to ensure that the curve suits your photo.
Combine With Other Designer Templates
The beauty of all Designer Templates is that they play together like the best of friends. That goes double for Fun Borders! Fun Borders come in a variety of shapes and sizes, and you’ll find numberless ways to incorporate them into your template collection. Here are 2 simple samples of ways that you can play with Fun Borders and the Accessories you already know and love: put them through the center of another template and split the Fun Borders in half like puzzle pieces.
2. Bullseye! Right Through The Center!

Fun Borders like Cascade Trails, Cedar Trails, and Happy Trails are thin and curvy, which means that they can go places other borders can’t, like right through other Designer Templates. If you already have Rings in your template collection, pull them out and put a Trail through the center. Try this technique with other Designer Templates that have a cut out center, like Lacey Trims or Triangles.

3. Cut Them Up & Piece Them Together
Fun Borders don’t have to be a single, continuous, unbroken line. Try using an accessory piece to decoratively split the Fun Border into 2 pieces for a puzzle or buckle effect. If you have a puzzle piece, that’s a cute shape, but this effect is also so cute with flowers, stars, and arrows.

Mix and Match Them With Themselves
Fun Borders don’t just play well with others: They also work well on their own. You don’t need an entire collection of borders and templates to make them stand out. You’ll love using a set all on their own.
4. Braid Them Together

You don’t need to know how to braid hair to be able to braid Fun Borders. Take a matching pair from a set, like Cascade Trails 1A and 1B, and flip one over. Intertwine them like you’re weaving, and you’ve got a super cute and easy border that you can use on any page! It’s easier than you think!
5. Layers Upon Layers
No matter what Fun Border you’re using, you’re going to want to layer them, but you’ll especially love layering Chevrons and Scallops.
Chevrons!
With Chevrons, you might try braiding them together like the previous tip. You absolutely can, but you don’t even need to do that to create a gorgeous layered design.

Chevrons come in 3 widths so that you can layer them any way you wish. Use several iterations of the same width in different paper patterns for a simple variance, or use different sizes to make it look intricate.

The Chevrons don’t even have to all go the same way. Flip one over so that the peaks are alternating, immediately making it visually stunning.
Scallops!
Who doesn’t love Scallops? They’re delicate, fun, and bouncy, easily changing with the paper you use! The Scallops also come in 3 sizes, and layering them is as fun as it looks! You’ll certainly love layering all the sizes together.

When you’re layering the same size, you can add even more texture! Adhere just the straight edge down, and then ruffle the scalloped edge up so that it looks like fish scales! Perfect for mermaid memories, aquarium adventures, and beach vacations.
Check out all the Fun Borders, add them to your collection, and start playing to discover all the potential that they contain. You’ll have a blast playing with them! Once you’ve completed your scrapbook pages, share them in the Community to help inspire others on their own creative trails!
