Seals in San Diego

A walk along the beach

Good morning everyone, Debbie here. My husband grew up in San Diego and we lived there for a few years after we were first married. So, when we had a trade show scheduled in San Diego last year, my daughter, Rachel, and I made sure to save some time to head to the beach. It was a cloudy, windy day – but as we walked along the beach, we came to some cliffs along the shoreline where a whole family of seals were laying out and enjoying the crowds that were gathered to watch them.  For Rachel, it was love at first sight! It was so much fun just to watch her as she got as close as she could to one of the baby seals. Only photographs could capture the sheer joy on her face!

Seals/Beach Layout

I started with the basic layout. I wanted to use our featured templates for July, Paradise and Mini Madison, and they ended up being perfect for these pictures!

Creating a Mini Frame

I decided to highlight the picture of the seal, who seemed to be smiling for the camera, and I did that by designing a mini frame for it. I laid the picture out and started playing with Mini Madison and the different Paradise templates until I came up with this design.  I love how it accentuates the photo and draws the eye to it.

Adding texture:

I also wanted to create some texture in my design, so I used some corrugated paper to back the photo and then created an embossed design on my shell using my patterned paper crimper.

I used these same techniques on the right side of my layout to create balance to my design, crimping the flower and adding corrugated tags to the photos.

I had so much fun translating the joy of these pictures, and the moment they represent, into a finished layout for my scrapbook! And I can’t wait for our next trip to the seaside to make more memories just like this one!
