New School Adventures
Hello Kiwi Lane Friends!! Gail Owens here today and I’m excited to be using Kiwi Lane’s newest releases: the Banners Accessory Set and Jacks A La Carte piece.
When I first saw the Jacks a la carte template, memories of playing with jacks during recess, back when I was in elementary school, began to surface in my mind. I knew I wanted to use the Jacks template for a school layout, so I pulled out Kiwi Lane’s Crisp Memories Layout Kit. This kit is a perfect combination of school and fall, which is great for scrapping those pictures from the first day of school. So that’s exactly what I did. After Playing to Create with my templates, here’s how I designed my layout:
You might be wondering why I chose to put pumpkins on a “Back to School” layout. Well, I turned my pumpkins into apples! And it doesn’t take a fairy godmother to do it. Here’s the simple how-to:
Trace the Tiny Holiday 4T template:
Flip the template and line up the bump on the bottom with the bump on the traced shape, like in the photo:
Trace the bump and erase the unwanted line, as pictured:
Cut it out and now you have an apple! Don’t you just love how versatile Kiwi Lane templates are?
After tracing, cutting and inking all of the pieces of my layout, here’s what I had:
I love that I didn’t have to search my stash for a title–I found the perfect title for my page on the sheet of printed elements within the Layout Kit itself!
Oh, and do you see those cute little yellow leaves on the apples? Those were made using a Mini Scallops template! Here’s how I did it:
Trace one row of scallops:
Flip the template, line up the valleys (or points) of the scallops and trace again:
Now cut out your tiny leaves and use them to accent larger shapes like a pumpkin-turned-into-an-apple, like this:
Chestnut Drive (1A,1B)
Aspen Court (3A,3B)
Jacks (A La Carte)
Tiny Nature (4T)
Tiny Holiday (2T,4T)
Mini Scallops (1A)
