I love snow around the holidays, but this year in Idaho we are getting a little more snow than I hoped for! The Boise area is hitting record snowfalls this year…along with a record number of snow days for the kids! Hopefully the weather lets up soon but until then…I plan to sneak in some scrapbooking along with some time with my kids!
It was probably all of the snow outside that inspired me to create this layout, but I had a great time putting it together. There is nothing better than scrapbooking on a snowy day, while watching a movie with your kids, and eating chocolate!
This was a fun layout to put together because I was able to mix up the Accessory sets a little more than I usually do for a blog post. I love seeing how many different looks I can get when I allow myself to explore my options more fully with multiple sets!
Because I knew this would be a snow page, I pulled out all of the Designer Templates that I thought had the right shape to help me create a winter feel in my layout. You will notice that not all of them are from a holiday-themed set. That’s because there are so many shapes in other sets that can cross over into other themes if you just use the right paper.
Above, you see what I started out with as my layout design but I ended up making a few changes as I went along.
Changing Up My Design
One of the changes I made was to add a Mini Cascade Trail piece below these 3 photos. I liked that it brought some color to the bottom of my layout and had the swooping feel of going down a sledding hill.
I also decided against the “Snow” title that I had originally created using chipboard letters. I felt that it didn’t pop off the paper well enough once I had the letters painted.
It is so fun to discover new and exciting design options as you Free yourself up to Play Joyfully with the different Designer Templates. Being able to try and try again, without fear of making mistakes is one of the reasons that these products are so powerful. So…never be scared to make changes as you go along…sometimes inspiration is simply waiting for a creative nudge, and a little Free Play is just the nudge it needs!
Have you been hit with an abnormal amount of cold or snow this winter?
