We are continually amazed at the work our Kiwi Lane Instructors do. Today I want to highlight Kiwi Lane Instructor Mary Snyder who lives in a small little town about an hour northwest of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania called Gilbertsville. Mary and her daughter Marlee Snyder who has joined in the business with her mom are doing an awesome job at teaching others the “Play To Create” system. (I’m told by Mary that her daughter Marlee is a Natural!) When I saw Mary’s layout below I knew we had to show it off because, well… it’s absolutely beautiful!!
The pictures in my layout above are of my daughter, Marlee. These pictures were part of her senior year photo shoot. We would do photo shoots quite often as she was growing up, but they were getting less and less as she got older. Being her senior year, we both wanted to just head out and see what we could find and do another shoot. We happened to come across this old tractor and with Marlee loving everything country we thought it would make a great photo shoot. Now, we took a chance and just pulled over on the side of the road and had our little shoot. We thought no one was home, but part way through the shoot a car showed up and we hurried ourselves out of there pretty quick. Ha ha. We managed to grab some pretty great pictures though.

Detail Detail Detail…
Being a long-time scrapbooker, just about 20 years with this hobby, Mary has an abundance of supplies. She used to make and sell crafts years ago and has incorporated some of her old products with this system of scrapbooking. Mary loves lace on her layouts and using old antique linens and trim. She said, “I think Kiwi Lane gives you a great start to utilizing some of our old products, using both, Kiwi Lane and old products are great for making new embellishments and unique embellishments.”

One trick or tip that Mary did on this layout was use the lace as part of her big flower. She knew it would be flimsy if she just cut it out and she wanted it to stand out so she actually glued the lace directly onto white card stock. When it was dry Mary traced and cut the flower out. Cutting lace out by itself is rather difficult she says. The lace moves all around, is flimsy and then you don’t really notice the shape that much. This piece of card stock behind it made it firm, easy to cut and really makes it stand out.
What Draws Mary In
Mary has 2 methods of doing layouts. It all depends on what draws her in. Sometimes it’s a certain picture that she wants to scrap. Mary then looks for complimentary papers. Other times it’s the paper pack as in this case with this layout. Between the Happiness is Homemade Double Paper Kit and the Country Accessory Set. Mary knew exactly what pictures she wanted to use and thought they went together perfectly. She said, “I love Kiwi Lane for helping me visualize what my page will look like from the start. After I get the basics down, the paper picked out, traced and cut and place my Designer Templates, I then start fooling around with the embellishments. I knew I wanted the tractor, but I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do with it. Once I put lace behind the openings on the tractor wheels I knew it would need some flowers on it, hence the LADY TRACTOR.”
Adding More Lace
Mary knew she wanted to use the jar from the Country Accessory Set. One thing led to the next and before you know it she was adding lace trim to that and the flowers just came along with it. It’s usually one element that becomes dominant without Mary even knowing it’s happening. In this case, she believes the lace and lace trim had a significant role in the outcome of her layout. The pictures and paper line played a big part also. Mary likes to search for the feel of what she is trying to achieve… In this case, pure country.
