Card Doodles

Howdy Kiwi Lane friends! Gail here with a few quick card tips.

I know I’ve mentioned this before, but I love to doodle on my cards freehand! Do you doodle? If you haven’t tried it, here is some advice and a few simple tips and tricks:

-It doesn’t have to be perfect! In fact, having uneven, broken and crooked lines adds character to your card.

-Start with drawing a line around the edge of shapes, then add more design elements as you see fit. Try a dashed line, double line, parallel line with a design in between, scallops, dots, etc. You are only limited by what you are willing to try.

-Find a pen you like. I tend to stay away from ball point for doodling and prefer an acrylic tip.

-Because you aren’t going to put your card in an album, you don’t have to use acid free pens. This opens up the doodling possibilities to include paint pens and permanent markers.

-You can doodle in whatever color you like. You can even layer colors.

I made this card using the Kids at Play layout kit and the football shape from the All-Star accessory set:

I used simple lines and dashes and a black pen, but it added so much more detail to the card! I like how it makes each layer and shape pop, kind of like a cartoon. I also used a chalkboard marker for the laces on the football and outlined it in black. It was easy and fun to add my doodling.
