7 Cards Using the Splash of Sunshine Layout Kit
Hi Kiwi Lane friends! Gail here today with a few cards to share with you.
You probably know by now that Kiwi Lane makes both Layout Kits and Card Kits (which are called Kwik-Card Kits). The layout kits are designed to help you create a single, two-page layout and (at least) one card, while the Kwik-Card Kits allow you to create five cards. But, what if you need to create a variety of cards, and you only have a Layout Kit handy? Well, did you know that you can also make 7 (or more!) cards using your Layout Kit? I’m here to tell you that you can! It just takes a little bit of figuring to get 7 card bases out of one kit. I’m here to provide you with that know-how today!
First of all, you need to know how each layout kit is configured. Each kit has 6 sheets of printed, double sided paper: two for the background, one for matting photos, and three more with different sizes of printed sections along with titles, quotes, etc. You’ll need to find the three sheets of paper that are mostly a solid color, front and back, for your card bases. That will give you six, so where does the other one come from? You will need to find one of the bigger sections of printed paper that has a subtle print on both sides (not a title or quote sheet, or a patchwork of smaller sections of patterns) and cut it down. Here’s what I pulled out of the Splash of Sunshine layout kit:
The pink arrow is pointing to the section on the full page that I’m going to use.
Before you cut your paper for your cards, trim off the decorative edges so you can use them on your cards. Next, cut your card bases to 8.5” x 5.5”- you will get two out of each 12×12 sheet of paper. Here’s what you should end up with:
Score each card base and fold in half.
Now it’s time to Play to Create! What you do with your design is completely up to you. Take advantage of the titles and quotes in the layout kit and use them for sentiments on your cards. Just remember to keep the lighter side of the paper inside so you can write in your cards.
Here are the seven cards I made:
I chose to leave the inside of my cards undecorated, so I ended up with scraps that I used on other cards later on.
I hope you feel inspired to Play to Create! Don’t forget to share your creations with us. You can leave a link in the comments here on the blog, or visit Kiwi Lane on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter.
